Our Italian adventure begins in Rome, the Eternal City, where centuries of history unfold among ancient ruins, grand piazzas and remarkable works of art. From the Colosseum and Roman Forum to the treasures of the Vatican, Rome offers an extraordinary introduction to Italy's rich cultural heritage. A hands-on Italian cooking experience provides the opportunity to discover another of the country's great passions—its food.
Travelling north into Umbria and Tuscany, the pace slows as we explore medieval hill towns, peaceful countryside and some of Italy's most celebrated landscapes. Visit the spiritual town of Assisi, admire the dramatic setting of Orvieto, wander the historic streets of Siena and San Gimignano, and experience the artistic treasures of Florence. Along the way, vineyard dining and regional cuisine showcase the flavours that have made Tuscany famous around the world.
The journey continues to the Ligurian Coast, where colourful fishing villages cling to dramatic cliffs above the Mediterranean. Porto Venere and the villages of the Cinque Terre offer spectacular coastal scenery, picturesque harbours and a relaxed atmosphere that has inspired artists and travellers for generations.
From the sea, we head into the magnificent Dolomites, where rugged alpine peaks, charming mountain villages and panoramic gondola rides reveal another side of Italy. The dramatic scenery provides a striking contrast to the historic cities and coastal landscapes experienced earlier in the tour.
Our final days are spent among the elegance of the Italian Lakes, staying on beautiful Lake Maggiore while exploring Lake Como, Bellagio and the stunning gardens of Isola Bella before concluding in stylish Milan. Combining history, art, cuisine, breathtaking scenery and authentic local experiences, this journey offers a wonderful introduction to the many faces of Italy.
