As Jacky’s journey through the Five Stans draws to a close, one theme stands out above all others: the warmth and generosity of the people they have met along the way.
Travelling through this remarkable region has revealed an extraordinary diversity of cultures, traditions and landscapes. From bustling bazaars and ancient Silk Road cities to mountain valleys and desert towns, every stop has offered something new to discover.
Yet again and again it has been the human connections that have left the strongest impression.

“Travelling through the Five Stans has opened our eyes to such a diversity of cultures and customs, but it’s the people who have made the journey so memorable. Everywhere we’ve gone we’ve been welcomed with curiosity and kindness.”
— Jacky, Maher Tour Leader
Throughout the journey the group has experienced this generosity firsthand. Artists have patiently demonstrated their craft, local guides have shared stories and history with enthusiasm, and families have opened their homes to offer a glimpse into everyday life.
Sometimes the most memorable moments have been the simplest ones, strangers stopping in the street to say hello, asking where the group was from, or wanting to take a photograph together.
Despite the language barriers, the group has consistently felt safe, welcomed and well looked after throughout the tour. Smiles, gestures and shared curiosity have bridged the gaps in language, creating connections that often need no translation.
For Jacky and her travellers, the journey across Central Asia has been not only an exploration of the landscapes and history of the Silk Road, but also a reminder of how open and generous the world can be.
As the tour comes to an end, it is these encounters with people, warm, curious and welcoming, that will remain some of the most lasting memories of the journey.
