As our journey through Kenya and Tanzania comes to an end, the group is reflecting on an extraordinary few weeks under the African sun.
The wildlife has been exceptional from beginning to end. One of the highlights was witnessing the early stages of the Great Migration as thousands of wildebeest gathered across the Serengeti, an annual event that has become one of Africa's greatest natural spectacles. Over the course of the tour, the group was also fortunate to see the Big Five, each encounter adding another memorable chapter to the adventure.
Some of the most special moments came not from ticking wildlife off a list, but simply watching animals go about their daily lives. We spent time observing a pride of lions feeding on a fresh kill, watching their interactions and hierarchy unfold naturally. Another unforgettable moment came as a mother elephant gently guided her calf across the road between our safari vehicles, a quiet reminder of the remarkable behaviour and family bonds found in the wild.
There were plenty of unexpected encounters too. A lion peering over the rocks outside one couple's tent at Mbuzi Mawe quickly became the photograph of the tour, while a close encounter with Rothschild's giraffes at Lake Nakuru allowed the group to quietly watch these magnificent animals as they wandered calmly past. Birdlife and aquatic wildlife also featured throughout the journey, adding another dimension to each game drive.
Staying on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater was another highlight. Surrounded by forest and overlooking the crater below, it provided a wonderful base for a full-day safari exploring one of Africa's most unique ecosystems. The group was delighted to spend time observing a rarely seen serval cat as it moved through the grasslands, a special sighting that few visitors are fortunate enough to experience.
Our safari lodges and camps welcomed us warmly throughout the journey, and staying in safari accommodation became part of the adventure itself. While the occasional scorpion in a bathroom, snake on a pathway or curious lion nearby certainly kept everyone alert, these moments only added to the experience of spending time in one of the world's great wildlife destinations.
As we begin our journey home from Johannesburg, the memories of Kenya and Tanzania are already becoming stories to share—remarkable wildlife encounters, wonderful hospitality and the privilege of experiencing Africa's extraordinary landscapes together.
