Friday 10 August

Home – Buenos Aires (D)

Today we fly to Buenos Aires, crossing the international dateline en route. On arrival into Buenos Aires this afternoon, you will be met and transferred to your hotel, located in Recoleta, the city’s most exclusive area. The remainder of the day is at leisure. Enjoy dinner tonight in a local restaurant.


Saturday 11 August

Buenos Aires (B, D)

This morning enjoy a sightseeing tour of Buenos Aires, visiting the most important highlights of the city. Beginning at Plaza de Mayo Square, we then visit Mayo Avenue and the oldest residential neighbourhood in Buenos Aires; San Telmo. Other highlights include, Puerto Madero, Palermo, Recoleta, the colourful neighbourhood of La Boca, where tango first originated in the late 1800’s, and Recoleta Cemetery, the famous and final resting place of “Evita”. Tonight, enjoy dinner and a spectacular tango show at the 1940’s style Esquina Carlos Gardel Club.


Sunday 12 August

San Isidro – Tigre Delta (B, D)

This morning, admire Buenos Aires from the Rio de la Plata as you travel by catamaran to the Tigre Delta. On arrival, transfer to Paseo Victoria, the most important neighbourhood in Tigre, and then to Puerto de Frutos. You will also see San Isidro, visit the towns historical centre and Cathedral, and the Presidential Residence in Olivos, before returning to the city. The afternoon is at leisure – perhaps explore San Telmos famous Sunday antique markets which stretches down 13 blocks, discover Recoleta, or simply relax at the hotel. Enjoy dinner at the hotel tonight.

A day at leisure today to relax and enjoy.


Tuesday 14 August

Buenos Aires – Iguazu Falls (B, D)

This morning we return to the airport and join a flight to Cataratas del Iguazú, the main base for visiting the famed Iguazu Falls. On arrival, we will be transferred to our hotel and this evening, we embark on a unforgettable evening at “The Argentine Experience” – a unique dining experience which blends exquisite food, endless boutique wine, local culture and social integration. Led by a charismatic guide, learn how to make traditional empanadas, make your own alfajores, and learn the history and etiquette of ‘mate’, Argentina’s traditional caffeine-rich infused drink.


Wednesday 15 August

Iguazu Falls – Argentinean Side (B, D)
Early this morning we visit the Iguazu Falls on the Argentinian side. We take the Rainforest Ecological train where we enjoy panoramic views from above and below the waterfalls. We then visit the Devils Gorge, which is said to be one of the most spectacular falls and a major highlight of Iguazu Falls. For more adventurous travellers, there is even the option of taking a boat ride under the Falls.

 


 Thursday 16 August

Brazilian Falls & Exotic Bird Park – Rio de Janeiro (B, D)

Today we see the falls from the Brazilian side of the border as we board buses for a tour of the park. From the Brazilian side, there are breath-taking views of the Floriana Falls, the Devil’s Gorge Canyon and the Iguazu River. Continuing on, we visit Parque das Aves, an ecological bird sanctuary, home to more than 900 birds of 150 different species. The visit allows direct contact with bird species that rarely could be seen elsewhere. At the conclusion of the tour, we will be transferred to the airport for our onward flight to Rio de Janeiro.  On arrival into Rio, we will be met and transferred to our hotel.


Friday 17 August

Corcovado & Sugarloaf (B, L)

This morning begins at Corcovado Hill. Travel 4km by vehicle through the Tijuca Forest, the world’s largest urban National Park, before arriving at Christ the Redeemer where we can experience a panoramic lookout of the city. We also see Maracana Stadium, the Sambadrome and the Metropolitan Cathedral, before passing through the famous arches of Lapa en-route to Copacabana. We have a traditional Brazilian BBQ lunch before visiting the famous Sugarloaf Mountain with views across the entire city. Tonight is at your leisure.


Saturday 18 August

Rio de Janeiro – Free Day (B, D)
Today is a free day for you to relax on one of Rio’s famous beaches such as Ipanema or Copacabana, or explore the city further at your leisure.


Sunday 19 August

Rio – Lima (B)

This morning is at leisure for you to explore Rio. A late check-out has been provided, before an evening flight to Lima. Lima, the capital of Peru is one of South America’s largest cities and known as the ‘Gastronomical Capital of the America’s’, encompassing specialties from traditional coastal cooking to a refined global fare. Lima is home to various museums including Museo Larco & Museo de la Nacion and even boasts several of the top restaurants in the world. On arrival in Lima, we are met and transferred to the hotel.


Monday 20 August

Lima (B, L, D)

Following breakfast, we embark on a Gastronomic Tour. We begin at the Peruvian markets before making our way to an exclusive Peruvian restaurant where we will learn to prepare the famous “Ceviche” and “Pisco Sour”. Tonight, we head to La Dama Juana Restaurant for an unforgettable evening including of traditional dance, music and delicious Peruvian cuisine.


Tuesday 21 August

Lima – Puno (B, D)

This morning transfer to the airport for our outward flight from Lima. On arrival into Juliaca, we will be met and transferred to our hotel in Puno, stopping on the way to visit the pre-Inca burial ground of Sillustani, known to be one of the most important necropolises in the world, and situated overlooking the stunning Lake Umayo. Wander through the extraordinary tombs built from volcanic stone, some of these towers reaching heights of up to 12 metres. Puno is the largest city in the Southern Altiplano and is a melting pot of the Aymara & Quechua culture.


Wednesday 22 August

Uros & Taquile Islands (B, D)
Early this morning we travel by motorboat to the floating reed islands of Uros, an archipelago of more than 60 floating islands inhabited by the Uros, an ethnic group of fishermen. Here, we explore the islands by an authentic reed raft, before returning to Puno later this afternoon. The remainder of the day at leisure before enjoying dinner at the hotel later tonight.


Thursday 23 August

Puno to Cusco (B, L, D)

This morning, travel one of the most beautiful train routes in the world as we take the spectacular luxury Peru Rail Lake Titicaca train journey through to Cusco. As we farewell Lake Titicaca, enjoy the fresh air from the open-air observatory car, allowing you to take in the majestic views while enjoying the typical music and dances of the Peruvian highlands. A gourmet Lunch is taken onboard and on arrival in Cusco later this evening, we will be met transferred to our hotel.


Friday 24 August

Cusco (B, D)

This morning we begin a sightseeing tour, showing us the highlights of Cusco. See the 12-Angled Rock, Qorikancha Temple of the Sun, and the Cathedral, built on the ruins of an Inca palace. We also see Qenqo (giant rock), Puca Pucara, the Water Temple of Tambomachay, and more. The afternoon is left free for you to explore Cusco. This evening, we have dinner at Tunupa Museo Restaurant which features an exotic fusion of flavours and experience.


Saturday 25 August

Sacred Valley Full Day Tour (B, L, D)

We begin our tour of the Sacred Valley at the village of Pisac, situated at the base of a spectacular Inca fortress perched on a mountain spur. On market days Pisac erupts with locals in traditional dress selling fruit and vegetables, as well as homemade crafts. There is time to explore the markets before lunch is served at a local restaurant. We continue the tour along the River Urubamba, to Ollantaytambo, the best surviving example of an Inca city, with narrow cobblestone streets that have been continuously inhabited since the 13th century. At the conclusion of the tour, return by the modern Vistadome train to Aguas Calientes, featuring glass ceilings and panoramic views of the Andes mountain range.


Sunday 26 August

Machu Picchu (B, D)

Located 2,430 metres above sea level on a mountain ridge, above the Sacred Valley is where you will find Machu Picchu, the most famous of all Inca sites and one of the new Seven Wonders of the World. This awe-inspiring ancient city was abandoned prior to the Spanish colonisation by the Incas and the ruins have remained in extraordinary condition.  We see the Main Square, Circular Tower, the Sacred Solar Clock, the Temple of the Three Windows and the Cemeteries, and more. This afternoon, we return by the Vistadome train to Ollantaytambo.


Monday 27 August

Cusco (B, D)

This day has been left free for you to enjoy Cusco at your leisure. The city has a long and interesting history dating back to 1200AD and is the continent’s oldest continuously inhabited city. Narrow, cobble-stoned streets lined by Inca walls stretch out from the main plaza in every direction. Many of the colonial buildings were built on top of Incan foundations and the stonework is unmatched in its precision and beauty. Here, visitors to Cusco can get a glimpse of the richest heritage of any South American city. We enjoy dinner tonight at the hotel.


Tuesday 28 August

Cusco – Reserva Amazonica (B, D)

This morning we take a flight to Puerto Maldonado. On arrival in Puerto Maldonado, we visit the Butterfly House before transferring to the pier for a 45-minute boat trip to our accommodation at Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica – a gracious rainforest lodge, adjacent to the lush Tambopata National Reserve. Spy on the secret lives of the world’s largest rodent, the Capybara, search for elusive caimans and gigantic tarantulas by flashlight on a twilight river cruise or night walk, or if you prefer, head along to the nature presentation at the Eco Centre, followed by cocktails and dinner.


Wednesday 29 August

Amazon (B, L, D)

After breakfast, enjoy an excursion to Lake Sandoval along with the Inkaterra Canopy Walkway & Anaconda Walk. Lake Sandoval is a beautiful, mirror-like  oxbow  lake  that  is  home  to  the  endangered  giant  river  otter,  as  well  as  red  howler  monkeys,  macaws,  prehistoric  hoatzins,  also  called “shanshos”, point-tailed palm creepers and side-neck turtles. The canopy walkway and anaconda walk offers views unimaginable from below. Be on the lookout for different bird species such as toucans, woodpeckers, trogons and more.


Thursday 30 August

Amazon (B, L, D)

After breakfast, enjoy a motorised canoe ride to Gamitana creek. Take in the sights, scents, and sounds of the jungle as you meander through the rainforest, along the banks of a dark-water creek that is home to piranha, caimans, turtles and an abundance of vibrant birds, towards “Sanipanga”. We then travel by canoe downstream to the Gamitana Model Farm to learn about an Amazon model farm and have the chance to make your own plantain flour which is used for breakfast in the nearby lodges. The afternoon is at leisure before we enjoy dinner together tonight.


 Friday 31 August

Amazon – Lima (B, D)

After a buffet breakfast, we return to Puerto Maldonado by outboard motorised canoe to catch our return flight to Lima. On arrival into Lima, we are met and transferred to hotel. Tonight, we come together to enjoy our final dinner together.

 


 Saturday 01 September

Lima – Santiago
Today we are met and transferred to the airport in time to join out outward flight from Lima. We travel via Santiago to Auckland.


Monday 03 September
